In 1984 waren de fabrieks Porsches afwezig en hadden de privé-teams het rijk voor zich alleen bij gebrek aan serieuze concurrentie van andere merken. Hetgeen blijkt uit de eerste 7 posities in het eindklassement.
The factorycars were not at Le mans in '84. So the private teams were among each other. Other makes had no chance. The first 7 cars were Porsches.

1984                                             European touringcar championship + DTM 
Toen de groep 5 wagens verdwenen kwamen de productie toerwagens weer in de belangstelling. BMW, Volvo, Rover en ook Jaguar werden actief in de internationale groep A autosport.
When the Group 5 GT's disappeared, touringcars came back in the interest of car producers. BMW, Volvo, Rover, Jaguar all became active in Group A.
