1980 24 uur / hours Le Mans
		Porsche was wel aanwezig met fabrieksauto's, maar met de bescheiden 924 GTR die niet meedeed voor de overwinning. Privéteam Joest had een 936 replica gebouwd die het moest opnemen tegen de Rondeau's. Porsche was present at Le Mans, but with their new 924 GTR, not a car that could go for the overall win. Privateer Joest entered a 936 replica and was fighting the French Rondeaus.

		Het wereldkampioenschap sportscars zag in 1980 veel verschillende winnaars, maar het gemiddeld niveau lag niet erg hoog meer door de afwezigheid van grote fabrieksteams. The worldchampion ship sportscars saw a large number of different winners, but the average level was not that high anymore because of the absence of the factory teams.

1980 IMSA, DRM & Procar
		De Groep 5 mocht zich in de tweede helft van de 70-er jaren in grote populariteit verheugen. De auto's werden regelmatig ingezet in de lange afstandsraces van het wereld kampioenschap, waarbij de strijd met name tussen Porsche en BMW ging. Buiten het WK was het DRM het grootste kampioenschap. The Group 5 was extremely popular in the second half of the 70's. The same cars that raced the endurance world championship could also be found in the German DRM Series.
