1971 24 uur / hours Le Mans
		Na de overwinning van de Porsche 917 in 1970, was deze gigant favoriet voor de zege in 1971. Dat lukte, maar het werd een supersnelle slijtageslag. De razendsnelle longtail versies van de 917 vielen uit en verrassend was het de Martini equipe van Gijs van Lennep en Dr. Helmut Marko die met de eer ging strijken. Om aan te geven hoe hoog het tempo lag in 1971 ... het afstandsrecord dat de 917K reed, heeft tot 2009 standgehouden. The 1970 race was a legendary one for several reasons. It was the first time that the drivers did not cross the track. It was the first of many Porsche victory's. Steve McQueen shot his famous Le Mans movie during the race and because of the bad weather, only 7 cars were classified in the end.

1971 Temporada Buenos Aires
		De belangrijkste endurance race op het Zuid Amerikaanse continent was de 1000 km van Buenos Aires, ook wel de Temporada genoemd. Gehouden in de Argentijnse zomer, in januari, vormde het een mooie aftrap van het nieuwe raceseizoen. In 1971 telde deze race mee voor het Wereldkampioenschap. Helaas kwam Ignazio Giunti om het leven na een noodlottige aanrijding met Beltoise die zijn Matra - met een lege tank - over de baan duwde. The most important endurance race at the South American continent was the 1000 km race at Buenos Aires, also known as Temporada. It was held in januari, in the Argentinian summer and a nice start of the new season. In 1971 the Temporada counted for the Worldchampionship. Sadly Ignazio Giunti died when he crashed into the Matra of Beltoise, who was pushing his car - with an empty fueltank - across the track.

		De trend van 1970 zette zich ook dit jaar gewoon door: de Gulf Porsches waren wederom de snelste. Rodriguez won samen met Oliver (de vervanger van Kinnunen). Siffert rijdt dit jaar samen met de sympathieke Derek Bell in plaats van Brian Redman. Just as in 1970 are the Gulf Porsches again the fastest. Rodriguez wins together with Oliver (whom replaced Kinnunen), Siffert drives together with the sympathic Derekl Bell instead of Brian Redman.

1971 12 uur / hours Sebring
		De 12 uurs race van Sebring zorgde voor een verrassing. Vic Elford was toegetreden tot de stal van Martini Racing dat de rol van tweede fabrieksteam had overgenomen van Porsche Salzburg. Hij won de 12 uurs race voor de verrassend goed presterende Alfa 33's die in Buenos Aires ook al in de top 5 reden. The 12 hour race of Sebring had some surprises. Vic Elford joined the team of Martini Racing which now was Porsches second factory team instead of Porsche Salzburg. He won together with Larrousse in front of the surprising new Alfa 33/3's which had been in the top 5 earlier in Buenos Aires already.

1971 1000km Monza
		In Brands Hatch werden de snelle Porsches eindelijk verslagen. De Alfa 33/3 van De Adamich en Pescarolo won verrassend voor de nieuwe 3-liter prototype van Ferrari de 312 PB. Op de ultrasnelle baan van Monza moesten de Gulf Porsches weer even orde op zaken stellen. Stommelen en Hezemans reden behalve in hun eigen Alfa, ook samen met Vaccarello omdat diens teammaat Nanni Galli zaterdag was gecrasht. In Brands Hatch, the Porsches were beaten at last. The Alfa 33/3 of de Adamich and Pescarolo won surprisingly in front of the new 3-liter proto from Ferrari, the 312 PB. At the ultra fast track of Monza the Gulf Porsches had to show who's the boss. Stommelen and Hezemans drove their own Alfa as well as together with Vaccarella because Nino's teammate Nanni Galli was unable to drive after a crash on saturday.

1971 Targa Florio
		Ook in Spa wonnen de Gulf 917's 'as usual'. Maar op het bochtige stratenparcours over Sicillië waren het weer de Alfa Romeo's die wonnen. Een overwinning met een dubbel oranje randje, want onze landgenoten Hezemans en Van Lennep reden de Italiaanse bolides naar het podium. In Spa the Gulf 917's won as usual. But at the twisty circuit on the island of Sicily it were the Alfa Romeo's again that won. A victory with a Dutch taste, because Hezemans and Van Lennep both drove one of the succesful Alfa's.

1971 1000km Nürburgring
		Na de Targa Florio volgde de race in de groene hel, waar de fabrieksteams van Porsche eveneens gebruik maakten van de wendbare 908/03's. Maar Alfa Romeo had bewezen een volwaardige tegenstander te zijn een ook de nieuwe Ferrari met 12-cilinder Formule 1 motor werd steeds sneller en had zelfs Pole Position. After the Targa Florio followed the 'green hell' as the Nürburgring often is called. The Porsche works teams use the same 908/03 here, but Alfa Romeo proved to be a worthy competitor and also the new Ferrari 312 with Formula 1 engine even had Pole Position.

		Watkins Glen was de laatste WK race van het jaar en werd gewonnen door de 3-liter Alfa Romeo van Andrea de Adamich en Ronnie Peterson voor de Porsche van Van Lennep en Siffert. Watkins Glen hosted the last race of the 1971 World Chamionship. It was won by De Adamich / Peterson in their 3-liter Alfa Romeo in front of the Porsche 917 from Van Lennep / Siffert.
